Why did Russell Crowe back down re circumcision?

Despite the fact that we enjoy so much success in Western society and are for all intents and purposes whites, we Jews are in some ways treated as a protected minority. Any criticism of circumcision can obviously be construed as anti-Semitic. I'm a bit offended that the cutting of boys' genitals has become a synecdoche for Judaism, but maybe it's a a deserved reputation as we are the group with the highest rate of MGM.
