Do Italians have a different judicial system to Britain and America?

I mean do they convict people even if there is reasonable doubt? Is quite a significant amount of doubt allowed? (I am just asking because of the completely unsafe conviction of the people who murdered that British girl Meredith with out any concrete evidence, just some circumstantial stuff and a massive amount of doubt and controversy over the evidence they have presented)
