Public Intoxication Charge/2nd Lt/Pilot in USAF?

Hi again. I recently spoke to the courts and I can do a "deferred disposition" (without going to court) under which if I comply to all the rules in the 6 month probationary period my PI charge will not result in a conviction. After that, in the state of TX I am entitled to an expunction of the charge. Should I try this route or will it still carry all the negative consequences of a conviction. I am scheduled to start pilot training in 3 months so I would still be under the probationary period when I went to base. My only other option that I see is to hire a lawyer and plead not guilty and hope the charges are completely dismissed (also if they are not dismissed what ends up happening? can I still file for deferred disposition then?).
